Robert Calmes: Beginning guitar at age 10 and has over 50 years of performing experience across various music styles. Currently semi-retired, he serves as the house musician for Cocha Restaurant in Baton Rouge. Previously, he taught guitar at Werlein’s Music in New Orleans and Pearson’s Music in North Carolina, where he also earned a living as a folk singer. In the 1980s, he performed at festivals, both solo and with Suzanne Shelton, and taught music theory at the Carrboro Arts Center. He has played classical music too, notably for fundraisers for the Baton Rouge and Acadiana Symphony Orchestras. He studied guitar briefly with Glen Caluda and undertook a number of years of cello study with Thaddeus Brys. In addition, he was guided through traditional music of the British Isles by Jane Peppler. Currently his CDs as a soloist and with his form chamber-folk group, Drifthouse, can be heard on Spotify and downloaded through CD Baby.
